Looking after it

Wipe inside and out and let the bag dry completely before reuse. Keep the valve and the zip channel free of fabric fluff, which is the usual reason a bag slowly reinflates.

Twenty five bags that turn a duvet into a cushion.

Vacuum seal bags in four household sizes plus five travel roll ups, with a double zip, a triple seal valve and a hand pump in the box.

[object Object]

The four household sizes work with a vacuum cleaner or the included hand pump, and the roll ups need neither.

A double zip seals the opening and a triple seal valve holds the vacuum, which is what stops a bag quietly reinflating overnight.

Compressed bedding loses most of its bulk, so a duvet that filled a shelf slides under a bed instead.

They are reusable, so the same set handles winter clothes in spring and summer clothes in autumn.

Vacuum Storage Bags

[object Object]

Vacuum Storage Bags

The set covers the sizes people actually need rather than one size repeated. Jumbo takes a duvet or a couple of winter coats, large suits blankets and jumpers, medium and small handle clothing and children's things.

Vacuum Storage Bags

The five travel roll ups work differently and are worth knowing about. They have no valve, and you push the air out by rolling the bag from the closed end. That means they work in a hotel room with no vacuum cleaner, which is exactly where you need them.

Vacuum Storage Bags

The seal is two parts doing two jobs. The double zip closes the opening, and the triple seal valve is what holds the vacuum afterwards. A bag that slowly puffs back up over a week has almost always got a strand of fabric caught in one of the two.

Vacuum Storage Bags

They are reusable, which is what makes a set of twenty five sensible. The same bags do winter clothes in spring, garden furniture cushions in autumn and a suitcase in summer.

Not sure yet? That is fine.

You can change your mind. This shop's own returns policy gives you 15 days from purchase to send it back in its original packaging with proof of purchase, and we refund the price you paid for the goods.

If it turns up faulty, damaged or not as described, that is on us. The Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 covers you, we pay the return postage, and you can have a repair, a replacement or your money back. Read the full detail on our refunds and returns page, or ask us anything before you order.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many bags are in the set?

Twenty five: five jumbo, five large, five medium, five small and five travel roll ups.

What are the sizes?

Jumbo 100 x 70 cm, large 80 x 60 cm, medium 70 x 50 cm, small 60 x 40 cm, and travel roll ups at 60 x 40 cm.

Do I need a vacuum cleaner?

Not necessarily. A hand pump is included and works with the four household sizes. A standard vacuum cleaner is faster if you have one to hand.

How do the travel bags work?

The five roll ups have no valve. You close the zip and roll the bag from the sealed end, pushing the air out as you go. That is why they suit a suitcase or a hotel room.

How does the seal work?

A double zip closes the opening and a triple seal turbo valve holds the vacuum once the air is out. The two do different jobs and both need to be clear of fabric.

Can they be reused?

Yes, many times. That is what makes a set of twenty five worth having, because the same bags do a different season each time.

What can I store in them?

Soft goods: clothing, bedding, duvets, pillows, blankets and coats. Anything bulky rather than heavy is where they help most.

What should I not put in them?

Delicate or heavily embellished garments such as fine silk, because compression can damage them. Also nothing rigid or sharp, which can pierce the bag.

How much space will I actually save?

It depends on how much air the item holds. A duvet or a pile of coats loses most of its bulk. Something already dense, like folded jeans, changes far less.

Are they airtight?

Sealed properly, yes. That is what keeps dust, moisture and insects out while the bag is in storage.

Why does my bag puff back up?

Almost always a strand of fabric caught in the zip or across the valve. Open it, clear the channel, close it fully and reseal.

Can I use them under a bed?

Yes, that is one of the main uses. A compressed jumbo bag is flat enough for most under-bed clearances.

Will my duvet recover afterwards?

Yes. Give it a shake and a few hours out of the bag and the loft comes back. Leaving it compressed for years rather than months is harder on it.

Are they suitable for a loft or garage?

Sealed bags cope better than fabric ones because they keep moisture out. Check the seal is holding before you leave anything in an unheated space for a season.

Can I use them for travel in luggage?

Yes, and the five roll ups are made for exactly that, since they need no pump or power.

Can I wash the bags?

Wipe them inside and out and let them dry completely before reuse. Do not put them in a washing machine.

Do they protect against moths?

A properly sealed airtight bag stops insects getting in. Store items clean, since anything already carrying eggs is sealed in with them.

Should clothes be clean before storing?

Yes, always. Compressing something that is not clean and dry seals in the moisture and the smell for the whole season.

Can I overfill a bag?

You can, and the result is a zip that will not close cleanly and a seal that fails. Fill to the line where the bag still lies flat when zipped.

How long will things stay compressed?

A good seal holds for months. Checking a bag after the first day tells you whether it sealed properly, which is worth doing before you forget about it.

Can I use them for pillows?

Yes, pillows compress well. Like duvets, they need a shake and a little time to recover afterwards.

Are they transparent?

Yes, so you can see what is in each one without opening it.

What are they made of?

PA and PE.

Do I need to buy a special pump?

No. The hand pump is included in the set.

Will the hand pump take long on a jumbo bag?

A jumbo bag is quicker with a vacuum cleaner. The pump is there so you are not dependent on one, which matters when travelling.

Can I stack them once sealed?

Yes, and compressed bags stack far better than loose bedding, because they are flat and hold their shape.

Can they be used for soft toys?

Yes, soft toys compress well. Wash them first if they are going away for a long period.

Will they work on a bag with a leak?

No. If a bag has been pierced it will not hold a vacuum, which is why it is worth keeping anything sharp away from them.

How long does delivery take?

Five to seven days in New Zealand and seven to ten days to other countries. Delivery is free on orders of $75 or more, so this set qualifies on its own; below $75 a delivery charge of $25 applies.

Can I return the set if it is not what I need?

Yes. It is a stock item, so this shop's own 15 day change-of-mind policy applies alongside your faulty goods guarantees.

Getting a vacuum bag to actually stay flat

4 min read SpaceSaver New Zealand

Why bulk, not weight, fills a house

A spare duvet weighs almost nothing and takes a whole shelf. A pile of winter coats is the same: light, and impossible to put anywhere.

That is because most of what they occupy is air held in the fibres. Taking the air out is the only thing that changes the volume, which is what a vacuum bag does and what a fabric storage bag cannot.

The gain is largest on the loftiest items. A duvet, a pillow, a puffer coat, a pile of jumpers: all of those shrink dramatically. Folded jeans, which are already dense, barely change. It is worth knowing that before you buy twenty five bags for a wardrobe full of denim.

The two seals, and which one usually fails

There are two separate things keeping the air out, and they fail differently.

The double zip closes the opening. It has to be fully closed along its whole length, and the common mistake is running the slider along once and assuming. Run it twice, pressing down, and check both ends.

The valve is what holds the vacuum after you have pumped. It is a one-way seal, and it needs its face clear.

When a bag slowly puffs back up over a few days, it is nearly always one of two things: a strand of fabric bridging the zip, or a wisp of fluff sitting across the valve. Both are fixed in seconds if you know to look.

The travel bags are a different tool

Five of the twenty five have no valve at all, and they are not a lesser version of the others.

You fill them, close the zip, and roll from the sealed end. The air pushes out ahead of the roll. No pump, no vacuum cleaner, no power.

That is precisely what you want in a hotel room or halfway through a trip when the return journey has more in it than the outward one did. Trying to use a valve bag in that situation without a pump is the frustration these avoid.

Clean and dry, every time

This is the rule that decides whether opening the bag in six months is pleasant.

Anything sealed away should be freshly laundered and completely dry. An airtight bag does not just keep moisture out, it keeps moisture in, and a duvet that felt "dry enough" on a damp day will smell of it by spring.

The same applies to insects. A sealed bag stops moths getting in. It does not help if the item already carried eggs when you sealed it.

What not to compress

Two categories are worth avoiding.

Delicate and embellished. Fine silk, sequins, beading and structured garments do not enjoy being squeezed flat for months. Sustained pressure can crush and mark them, and the damage is not always recoverable.

Anything rigid or sharp. A zip pull, a coat hook, a buckle with a point: any of those can pierce the bag from the inside once the vacuum pulls the plastic tight against it. A pierced bag will not hold, and you have lost a bag rather than saved a season.
