Looking after it

Let the fabric dry before packing it into the bag, since folding it away damp is what causes mildew. Brush off leaves and rinse mud rather than scrubbing the coating.

2.53 kg With A BagPacks away and moves when you do

A shed you put up in ten minutes and fold into a bag.

A 2.53 kg pegged shelter in silver coated 210D Oxford fabric, 200 x 165 x 80 cm, with room for two adult bikes.

It measures 200 x 165 x 80 cm, which is room for two adult bikes rather than one squeezed in.

The fabric is 210D Oxford with a silver coating, treated for water, UV and dust resistance.

[object Object]

The whole thing weighs 2.53 kg and comes with a carry bag and four pegs.

It is not only for bikes, and the same shelter is used for mowers, tools, pool toys, garden furniture and coolers.

Bike Storage Tent

A permanent shed is the right answer when you own the garden and intend to stay in it. For everyone else, a structure you can put up in ten minutes and take with you is a better fit, and considerably cheaper than the equivalent volume in plastic, wood or metal.

Bike Storage Tent

The size is the part to picture. At 200 by 165 by 80 cm it holds two adult bikes with room to get them in and out, rather than being a cover you drape over one bike and fight with.

Bike Storage Tent

Assembly is the same idea as a pop-up tent. The frame straightens, locates in the sleeves, then flexes into an arch under a little pressure, with a shorter frame member opening out the width. Ten minutes, no tools, and no post holes.

Bike Storage Tent

At 2.53 kg with a carry bag it is genuinely portable. It goes to a holiday cottage, a festival or a new house, which is not something you can say about a shed.

Not sure yet? That is fine.

You can change your mind. This shop's own returns policy gives you 15 days from purchase to send it back in its original packaging with proof of purchase, and we refund the price you paid for the goods.

If it turns up faulty, damaged or not as described, that is on us. The Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 covers you, we pay the return postage, and you can have a repair, a replacement or your money back. Read the full detail on our refunds and returns page, or ask us anything before you order.

Frequently Asked Questions

How big is it?

200 cm long, 165 cm wide and 80 cm high.

How many bikes will it hold?

Two adult bikes, with room to get them in and out rather than wedged.

How long does it take to put up?

About ten minutes, and no tools are needed. It goes up much like a regular tent.

How does the frame work?

You straighten the frame and insert it into the gap reserved in the tent, then bend it into an arch with a little force. A shorter frame piece opens out the width.

What is it made of?

210D Oxford fabric with a silver coating, treated to be waterproof and UV resistant.

Is it waterproof?

The fabric is waterproof treated and the silver coating helps it shed water. Pitching it so water runs away rather than pooling against the base matters as much as the fabric does.

Will the sun damage it?

It has anti-ultraviolet treatment, which is what stops outdoor fabric going brittle and fading. Full sun all day is harder on any fabric than partial shade.

What comes in the package?

The tent, a carry bag and four pegs.

Will it survive a storm?

It is a 2.53 kg pegged fabric shelter. Pegged properly in a reasonably sheltered spot it copes with normal New Zealand weather, but it is not a rigid shed and an exposed, very windy site is not the place for it.

Can I add extra pegs or guy lines?

Four pegs are supplied. In a windier spot, more anchoring is a sensible precaution, as with any tent.

Does it protect against theft?

No. It is a fabric cover, so it hides the bikes and keeps weather off them, and offers no security. Lock the bikes to something solid as well.

Can I use it for things other than bikes?

Yes. Tools, garden furniture, a lawn mower, a motorcycle, coolers, pool supplies and toys are all listed uses.

Will a motorcycle fit?

It is listed among the uses. Check your machine against the 200 x 165 x 80 cm dimensions, since a large motorcycle is longer than two bicycles side by side.

Is it portable?

Yes. At 2.53 kg with a carry bag and handle, it packs down and travels, which is the main advantage over a shed.

Can I leave it up all year?

It is made for outdoor use. Taking it down in the worst of the winter weather, or in a storm warning, will extend its life considerably.

Does it have a floor?

It is a cover-style shelter that goes over what you are storing. Standing bikes on a hard surface rather than wet ground helps keep them dry.

Will condensation form inside?

Any closed cover will collect some condensation when the temperature swings. Opening it on dry days lets it air out.

How do I clean it?

Brush off leaves and rinse mud away. Scrubbing hard is what damages the coating that makes it water resistant.

Can I pack it away wet?

Try not to. Fabric folded away damp develops mildew, and that is the most common way a storage tent is ruined.

Can it be pitched on a hard surface?

It can stand on a patio or drive, but the pegs need something to go into. On hard standing you will need weights or another way to anchor it.

Is the fabric tear resistant?

It is described as anti-tear. As with any fabric shelter, a sharp pedal or handlebar end pressed against it is what causes damage, so leave a little clearance.

Does it come with a repair kit?

The package contains the tent, a carry bag and four pegs.

Will it fit e-bikes?

E-bikes are usually a similar footprint to a normal bike. Check length and handlebar width against the 200 x 165 cm floor area.

Can children's bikes go in as well?

Two adult bikes is the stated capacity, so smaller bikes fit more easily and you may fit more of them.

How small does it pack down?

It comes with its own carry bag, and at 2.53 kg it is light enough to carry one handed.

Is it better than a plastic shed?

It is more economical, more versatile and far more portable. A rigid shed is more secure and better in severe weather. They suit different situations.

Can two people put it up?

One person can, and two makes flexing the frame into its arch easier the first time.

What if I lose a peg?

Standard tent pegs are widely available and will do the same job.

How long does delivery take?

Five to seven days in New Zealand and seven to ten days to other countries. Delivery is free on orders of $75 or more, so this tent qualifies on its own; below $75 a delivery charge of $25 applies.

Can I return it if it is too small?

Yes. It is a stock item, so this shop's own 15 day change-of-mind policy applies alongside your faulty goods guarantees. Measuring your bikes against 200 x 165 cm first usually settles it.

When a fabric shelter beats a shed

4 min read SpaceSaver New Zealand

The case for something you can fold up

A shed is a building. It needs a base, it needs assembling properly, it costs several times as much for the same covered volume, and when you move house it stays.

A fabric shelter is a different proposition. Ten minutes to put up, 2.53 kg in a bag, and it comes with you.

That suits more people than it sounds. Renters, anyone whose garden layout is not settled, anyone who needs winter cover for bikes and their space back in summer, and anyone who simply does not want to spend several hundred pounds to keep two bikes dry.

What the silver coating is for

The fabric is 210D Oxford with a silver coating, and the coating earns its place three ways.

Water. It sheds rain rather than absorbing it, which is the obvious job.

UV. This is the one that decides how many seasons you get. Untreated fabric left in sunlight goes chalky, loses colour and eventually tears at the folds. The coating reflects a good proportion of that.

Dust. A closed cover keeps a year of grit off chains and gear cassettes, which matters more for a bike that lives outdoors than the rain does.

Pitching it so it stays put

This is a pegged fabric structure that weighs two and a half kilos. Wind is the thing to respect.

Peg all four corners, every time. It takes a minute and it is the difference between a shelter and a kite. In an exposed garden, add more anchoring than the four supplied pegs.

Pick the sheltered side. Against a fence, a wall or a hedge, out of the prevailing wind, is far better than the middle of an open lawn.

On hard standing, use weights. Pegs need soft ground. On a patio or driveway you will need another way to hold it down, and the honest answer is that a hard, exposed surface is the least suitable place for it.

Take it down for a storm. It packs into a bag in a couple of minutes. That is a feature, not a chore.

Drying, and the one mistake that ruins it

Almost every fabric shelter that fails early fails the same way: it was folded into its bag damp.

Mildew grows in the folds, it smells, and it marks the coating permanently. Once it is in, it does not come out.

So if you are packing it away, open it out somewhere it can dry completely first. If that means leaving it up for another day, leave it up for another day.

What it does not do

Two things, and being clear about them saves disappointment.

It is not secure. It is fabric, it has no lock, and it takes seconds to open. It hides the bikes from view and keeps weather off them. The bikes still need locking to something solid.

It is not a shed in severe weather. In normal conditions, pegged properly and reasonably sheltered, it does its job. Against a winter gale, a rigid structure is a different class of thing, and pretending otherwise is how people lose a tent.
